Touch Awareness in Caregiving

A Day for Care Providers


Touch is the most prominent language in the caregiving relationship. In this class, you will learn touch skills that enhance the overall effectiveness care for your patients and loved ones, and provide nurturing to you as a care provider.


This Training is designed for CANs, Nurses, Volunteers, and Family Caregivers.


Upon completion of this class you will be able to:

• Identify the dimensions of touch in daily caregiving

• Define the benefits of touch in caring for those at the end of life, and/or with dementia

• Implement skillful touching with persons who are fragile, anxious, in pain and/or confused


2019 Dates: Each date is a separate training – April 6, June 8, July 11, August 3

Time: 10AM – 5PM

Location: San Francisco Location for each date will be announced at the end of January

What to bring: a pillow, body lotion, snacks if you want them, bag lunch or prepare to eat out, note pad and pen

Teacher: Irene Smith, CMP, introduced touch skills into hospice care on the West Coast in 1982. Irene has taught Touch Awareness to health care providers world-wide. She is an author, educator, and Director of Everflowing. As a California assistant to the late Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, Irene brings the skills of mind-body integration into her work.
